Welcome to the Voice of America’s News Words.The Oxford Dictionary’s word of 2017 is…Youthquake.The editors at Oxford Dictionary said there was a 400% increase in the use of the word “youthquake”in 2017.That is because of the large number of young people who voted in elections around the world.In England,their votes gave the Labour Party a surprising increase in their seats in Parliament.Youthquake comes from two words:”youth”and “earthquake.” It means big changes in culture,politics and society as a result of the actions of young people and a powerful youth culture.
